Golden Steer, the iconic Vegas steakhouse, recently opened in NYC - and it turns out it’s not just a great meal. We were flanked by tables of six to eight men on both sides, and I counted maybe five other women in the entire dining room, including us. Do with that what you will. (And plan your next girls’ dinner accordingly.)

Now, onto the actual restaurant -

The service was 10s across the board. The vibe is golden-age Vegas opulence, but in a way that feels chic - not cheesy. Deep red hues everywhere - walls, carpet, leather booths, and drool-worthy Fazzo pendants. Rich and immersive, it’s peppered with special little details, like dice-tipped cocktail picks in the martinis.

The food was indulgent in the best way, and there were honestly no skips. They really commit to the tableside moment here - Caesar salad, bananas foster - both worth ordering. And Jed, our tableside gentleman, was a true character and wealth of knowledge, which made the whole experience even more memorable.

It’s definitely a splurge, but one that feels very worth it for a special occasion - easily my favorite meal I’ve had in awhile.

I posted a couple of slideshows on TikTok of my best The Real Real purchases and they popped off. Okay, not viral in the grand scheme of TikTok, but viral enough that people started asking me to share my secrets.

The truth is, a lot of it isn’t really teachable. Working in fashion and buying for the past 12+ years has made me a hyper-aware shopper. I know how certain brands and styles are supposed to fit (especially on my body), how pieces are meant to drape, what something should look like when it’s styled correctly (which TRR frequently gets wrong). That kind of instinct is hard to replicate.

That being said, I can share a few tips on how to score those special pieces and deals, even if you’re not a professional:

Timing Matters

New arrivals drop daily at 10AM and 7PM ET. If you’re serious about finding the best pieces, their 'First Look’ subscription (early access 24 hours before everyone else) is worth it - or free if you hit their VIP seller tier. The good stuff always goes fast and probably doesn’t make it past that 24-hour window.

Add to cart immediately

If something catches your eye, don’t hesitate - just add it to cart. You’ll get a 20 minute window to reserve your items before checkout is required, and in that time, I always do a quick reverse image search to check the pricing is fair, and to see if it exists elsewhere in better condition at a better price. Their pricing is wildly inconsistent, so I always fact check before purchasing.

Read the condition report

Their standards have dropped over the years, so it’s important to read the fine print and be discerning. I usually stick to “excellent” or “pristine” (unless there is an amazing outlier) and even then, I’m scrutinizing.

A recent win: Last week, I scored the below Hervé Léger gown on TRR that I’ll be wearing to a wedding later this year (or probably two of them, tbh). It was listed as ‘very good’ and labeled a direct brand sample (which they usually refuse to sell), so I was skeptical - but something about it felt right. And when I did the reverse image search, it was nowhere to be found - perhaps a 1 of 1. It arrived in perfect condition, and while I do need to hem about two feet off of it, it was a very good get.

We were lured in by the genius of Jennifer Tilly to see the off-Broadway production of The Adding Machine. I genuinely enjoy going to random performances of shows I know nothing about - though that does mean they don’t always hit.

This one, unfortunately, was a miss for me. It was relentlessly bleak, with a central theme I didn’t quite agree with. The acting was solid, but I’ll be honest - I seriously considered leaving at intermission, and I’ve only contemplated that one other time in my life.

I had mentally moved out of coat territory for the season, until I spotted these two strangers walking down the street in chic shearling-trimmed jackets and immediately changed my mind:

So now, naturally, I’m on the hunt for something similar. This jacket feels like a great traisiton option while still giving the same sort of vibe. I also have my eye on this more affordable (and fun) option, and any version of the Dorothy from Susanna Chow is always a good investment.

A quick pivot, because my fashion brain is a little all over the place right now (and how can it not be when it’s 70 degrees one day and 40 the next). The wedding invites are starting to roll in, and I’m starting to look for spring/summer guest dresses. My color of choice for the season is shades of light blue - it somehow works on every skin tone, every hair color. I pulled a few favorites below, and there are plenty more in my guest dress edit and my under $500 edit.

It’s been awhile since I felt so drawn to a show that I had to go on opening night - and the fact that I limped there in my little recovery boot should tell you everything you need to know. Elizabethan Collar, David Smalling’s solo exhibition at Templon, evokes the Old Masters and Dutch Golden Age while exploring very modern themes - identity, aspiration, conditional belonging, among other things. The works are stunningly beautiful at first glance, but the longer you stare at them, the more they become slightly unsettling. Every painting was more mesmerizing than the last. NYC people - make sure you see this before it closes on April 25.

Home

I post little snapshots of my apartment here and there, and always get questions about it - or something in it, or something in the background. It got me thinking about how it’s come together, and what actually makes a space feel good. A few things I’ve learned along the way:

Always bring something home from your travels: My apartment is filled with small reminders of different trips - funny faced ceramics from Copenhagen, a papier-mâché skeleton from Mexico City, a gilded box from Venice, coffee table books from Berlin.

Don’t be afraid of color: It’s very easy to default to neutrals in the name of ‘timeless', but a home should feel warm and alive, not overly restrained.

Don’t force a space to feel finished: It’s tempting to want everything decorated and complete, but I’ve found the best spaces come together slowly. Let things happen organically, it always ends up feeling more thoughtful.

Vintage>new, almost always: Pre-loved pieces with a history tend to speak to me more than anything shiny in a store. I have a piece of art that previously hung in a room at the Gramercy Park Hotel, an Art Deco lamp I found in Philly, a porcelain Gucci butterfly container from an antique mall in New Jersey, a pair of Bergdorf’s hat boxes (from 1960 & 1965) with original delivery stickers and a very chic Upper East Side address still on the back. I always make a point to visit antique shops when I travel - and locally in upstate NY & NJ - and I love falling down the rabbit hole of online auctions (Rago, Wright, LAMA…occasionally Julien’s, where I consistently lose bids on Edith Head costume sketches).

Expensive doesn’t always mean better: I replaced a shitty cheap floor mirror I’ve had for 12+ years with a much more expensive one. While the frame is gorgeous, the mirror itself is warped and terrible. Humbling.

Lighting is everything: It can make or break a space. Anything but overhead is preferred.

Commission something, if you can: Some of my favorite pieces in my apartment are things I’ve had made - an ottoman, a piece of art. They feel uniquely mine in a way that’s hard to replicate.

Movies

I went to an early screening of Marc by Sofia last week, and I’m sad to say that lacked both direction and depth. It felt surprisingly surface level for such a colorful subject. Sofia isn’t really an interviewer - she’s an observer, very much in the vein of her mother, more fly-on-the-wall than probing. That can be compelling in some instances, but here it just means we never quite get anywhere. I was hoping for a deeper dive into Marc’s work - the evolution of his own brand, his impact on and tenure at Louis Vuitton, which completely reshaped the brand - and it never comes. The whole movie just stays skimming the surface.

Current Obsession

The Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo + Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask from K18. The shampoo made my scalp feel as clean as it possibly can be outside of a professional salon wash, and the leave-in mask has my hair looking so sleek and shiny with almost zero effort. Even three days later, a friend asked why my hair looked so put together - like I had actually styled it - when we were just hanging at home. That alone says everything.

We’re in the middle of a frozen yogurt renaissance - new spots seem to be popping up weekly. I’m personally feeling nostalgic for the late-2000s era, when 16 Handles, Red Mango, Pinkberry, and Forty Carrots were in heavy rotation. I’ve never actually abandoned froyo, but I’m happy to see the rest of the city catching back up.

Here’s my ranking of NYC spots right now (important context: I’m an original/tart purist, which is the only way froyo should really be evaluated):

1. Culture: The most high-quality, tangy tart yogurt in the city. The seasonal toppings/flavors are always excellent.

2. Mimi’s: I wanted to hate this place given the hype…but it is incredible. The toppings are unmatched - easily the best I’ve ever seen - and major bonus points for being self serve.

3. Pinkberry: A classic for a reason. The store experience leaves a lot to be desired, but their classic tart still holds up, and the seasonal matcha tart is amazing.

4. Butterfield: Too sugary/sweet for me, but toppings are very good and quality is solid overall.

5. Forty Carrots: The tart is good, but this is the only place where I order something different: coffee. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but nothing beats a large cup of coffee froyo topped with oreos after an afternoon of shopping. Bloomingdale’s 59th street location only - that Soho store is depressing (and also too close to Mimi’s).

6. Birdie’s: I’d rank this lower if I had more spots to add. Genuinely dislike almost everything about the experience here. When I went, they were sold out of half of the toppings (at 6pm on a Tuesday???), the tart tasted more like soft-serve ice cream than yogurt, and the overall energy of this place just feels…off.

I still need to try Madison Fare (not fair to do rankings before trying this, though I’ve heard mixed reviews - and the Greenwich Village location looks a little sad), and I’m looking forward to the upcoming openings of Myka & Go Greek.

Long live froyo.

The Bride!: This movie was a wild ride! Some plot holes and lack of character development, but overall an energetic, visually appealing movie. Worth watching for Jessie Buckley’s performance alone. The fact that she started filming Hamnet 2 weeks after wrapping on this movie? Yeah, she deserves that Oscar this weekend.

Scream 7: If you’re not a well-versed fan of the franchise, I’d say skip it. But I love these silly movies, and while I’ll admit this one was both 1⭐ and 5⭐’s at the same time, everyone was screaming and laughing in the theater and it was genuine fun.

Culture

I saw the current play running at Cherry Lane Theater, You Got Older, this week. A note from the playwright in the program reads: “This play was written and finished in the middle of a personal crisis - before anything was resolved. And so, for me, it remains a kind of play without perspective.”

That lack of perspective, unfortunately, does the play a bit of a disservice. It ping-pongs between deeply real and emotional family scenes and surreal fantasy dream sequences that feel awkward and ultimately unexplained. When the play hits an emotional nerve - which it does a handful of times - it’s genuinely impactful. But overall, it left me wanting a bit more clarity and cohesion, and in the end, fell a little flat for me.

I’ve been anxious thinking about how to share this, and there’s really no elegant segue…

After nearly a decade, I’ve decided to step away from Maison Rogue.

The dream started in 2016 in the buying office at Barneys. What if we did things differently? What if we trusted our gut over the old rulebook? What if we just said fuck it and went rogue?

We built something from nothing. A brand, a community, a point of view. It was scrappy and imperfect and deeply personal - something I poured myself into at an age when most people are still figuring out who they are. I’m proud of that devotion and focus. Even if, every so often, I felt the quiet weight of what it asked me to set aside.

For a while now, I’ve known that it was time to move on. Not in a dramatic, sudden way. More like a slow, persistent knowing that I kept trying to outrun.

But Maison Rogue has felt like my child. I was 24 when we started it. It grew as I grew. So much of my identity has been wrapped up in it - I believed it was the whole book I was writing, not just a chapter.

Coming to terms with the idea that it might be time for me to step away from something I loved so deeply hasn’t been simple. It’s been the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to admit to myself. There’s a lot of grief, guilt, confusion, fear in it.

By nature, I’m fiercely loyal - to people, to commitments, to the things I care about. Sometimes that means staying longer than I probably should. Loyalty is a beautiful thing, until it asks you to stay tethered to a version of yourself you’ve already outgrown.

Walking away means I can’t avoid something I’ve been quietly wrestling with for years - who am I without this business that’s defined so much of my life.

And I don’t really know that yet. Which is equal parts terrifying and exciting. It’s an uncomfortable kind of growth, where you just have to trust that the version of you that stands on the other side of this is stronger, more grounded, more confident.

I’m deeply proud of what we built. I’m grateful for every brand that believed in us, and for every person who found their way to MR and felt like they’d discovered something special - a piece they hadn’t seen everywhere else, a brand they were just uncovering, a curation that somehow speaks directly to them. For the quiet excitement watching someone’s eyes light up when I say the name Maison Rogue and they pause, smile, and say, Wait - I know that. I follow you. I’ve shopped with you! Those moments never stopped feeling surreal.

I am endlessly grateful to my friends and family who have shown up in a million very real, very tangible ways over the past decade.

To the friends who gave us countless hours of love disguised as labor - modeling for photoshoots, helping produce content and creative, styling, schlepping boxes and racks, staying up late on nights and weekends simply because they believed in us. To the friends who trekked to our pop-ups in the pouring rain and freezing cold - who showed up no matter what.

To the ones who made Maison Rogue part of your lives - your closets, your gift lists, your milestones. To the people who, without fail, bought their holiday gifts, birthday gifts, just-because gifts with us every single year (hi, Nannie!). To my family & friends who didn’t just cheer from the sidelines but backed us in the most tangible way - by showing up at checkout.

To the years of free advice, the sounding boards, the people who lent their expertise and shared their knowledge generously. And to my parents - who didn’t just believe in this business, but have believed in every version of me, every idea, every pivot. That unwavering support is something I’ll never stop being grateful for.

There’s a part of me that has wrestled with the feeling that walking away means letting all of these people down - the people who poured into this alongside me. But what I hope you know is that your belief in me is part of what has given me the courage to step into whatever comes next.

I am endlessly filled with gratitude. I can never repay what you gave me - your time, your energy, your belief, your kindness. This chapter doesn’t exist without you, and neither do I.

So…what’s next? I’m exploring. Learning. Letting myself imagine work that feels fulfilling, creative, sustainable, energizing - and aligned with who I am becoming. I’m staying open to opportunities that don’t fit neatly into a box - ideas, directions, and conversations that wouldn’t have made sense to me even a year ago.

Above all, I am learning to trust the unknown - and to remember that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is - once again - go a little rogue.

I am not someone who cries at movies. I was once called a cold-hearted bitch by my high school boyfriend’s dad for not crying during The Notebook. So it’s personally off brand that Wuthering Heights emotionally wrecked me. How did I end up feeling so deeply for two such sinister, deeply unwell individuals?

Haters be damned - I loved this film. The Charli xcx music pulled me out of the moment at times (love the album separately, though), and the foreshadowing was not at all subtle, but none of that diminished the emotional weight of the film for me. I went in with no real attachment, having owned the book for at least 10 years and never making it past page 50, and somehow left feeling compelled to finally read it. Though I’ve been advised not to, so I may just keep this movie my one and only context of this story.

If you can, you must see this in IMAX. The scale of the sets and the beauty of the costumes really deserve it.

As mentioned above, Wuthering Heights has been constantly on my mind since I saw it. The costumes were breathtaking - and paired with Margot Robbie’s red carpet run for this press tour (perfection, no notes), it got me thinking: what would Cathy wear if she were existing in 2026? In my mind, she’d live in Simone Rocha, Vivienne Westwood, Chloé, Rodarte, Markarian. For her more casual looks, she’s turn to DOEN or Thierry Colson. She would love Sophie Buhai and Justine Clenquet for jewelry, and would top every look off with a pair of Manolos. Because even terrible people with questionable morals can still have excellent taste.

I typically think it’s a bad idea to try a restaurant within the first few weeks of opening, but I broke my own rule for Ambassadors Clubhouse - and I’m so happy that I did. I’ve thought about my meal at Gymkhana in London from several years ago more times than I can count, so I went in optimistic, and it delivered.

The interiors are theatrical and opulent in the best way - stained glass windows, rich textiles, and lighting fixtures I was practically drooling over. It reminded me of 42, the cocktail lounge above Gymkhana - that same transportive, slightly surreal feeling where you forget where you are for a few hours. Even the flatware was impeccable (imported directly from India, of course).

The service was knowledgeable and attentive - especially notable for a restaurant this new. The soundtrack, remixes of Drake, Jay-Z and more, was an unexpected highlight that somehow worked.

I’d confidently recommend every dish that we ordered: Chili Cheese Pakode, Original BBQ Butter Chicken Chops, Bharwan Mirch Kebab, Ajwaini Wild Jheenga (the largest prawns I’ve ever seen), Matka Beliram Lamb, Methi Romanesco & Chana Biryani, Dhaba Dal. Our server graciously threw in the Selection of Papads for us after observing our indecisiveness - a small but appreciated gesture. For dessert, the Banana, Peanut & Dark Chocolate Kheer - a basmati rice pudding with banana ice cream, caramelized peanut (dusted in gold because why not) and popcorn - was heavenly. The cocktails were also 10/10 - my choice was the Bhang Southside (the mandarin gives it a lovely freshness).

The price tag definitely fits the experience here, but I can confidently say this was one of the best meals & restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time.

I didn’t realize how much my closet needed editing until I actually started. I’ve taken a few of these snowy days as a sign to do some very early spring cleaning - a full closet reset and reorg, clearing it out from top to bottom. It felt freeing to finally part ways with so many single-use pieces that only worked for a specific night, a specific vacation.

Since then, I’ve been scrolling a bit more intentionally. It’s made me want to be far less impulsive, shopping only for pieces that actually spark something - items that feel special and not overly trend-driven, but still unique to me and my personal style.

Funny Bar: way more cool than it was funny, it felt like the place where the Dimes Square crowd retreats to in the wintertime. Dark, moody atmosphere, paper tablecloths & crayons, live jazz, and a refreshingly straightforward menu of steak, fries, salad, and a brownie sundae for dessert. Sometimes it’s nice when the only real decision you have to make is what you’re drinking.

Musaafer: a friend I was dining with likened the interior to something you might find at Epcot (in a non-derogatory way). It was opulent and immersive enough that, for about two hours, I almost forgot I was in Tribeca. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Funny Bar, the menu was extensive, almost overwhelming. The plating was often gorgeous and the food rich and deeply flavorful, though at times the flavors blurred together a bit lacking distinct contrast across dishes. That said, when everyone at the table names a different favorite dish, it’s a pretty clear sign that everything is delicious. A great choice for a special occasion, though I still find myself preferring Adda and Bungalow among newer Indian spots.

Movies

I saw two very different movies last week that did happen to have one thing in common: Alexander Skarsgard.

Pillion, a movie that I thought was just going to be gratuitously sexual and kinky (okay, it certainly was), but also had really deep themes of community and belonging, finding yourself, and establishing personal boundaries. It was emotional and heartbreaking, and yet somehow, ended on a hopeful note that didn’t take the obvious way out. Don’t believe their framing of this movie with the promo they’ve been doing, though - it is most definitely a ‘Dom-Dram’, not a ‘Dom-Com’.

The Moment, Charli xcx’s mockumentary, was slightly better than I expected. As a big fan of the Brat-era, I was, of course, seated. Charli’s acting chops were much better than I expected (can’t say the same about Kylie Jenner, though). Definitely not a must-watch movie unless you’re truly a fan.

Birkins?? They’re everywhere I look.It feels like every influencer - whether they have style or not - is suddenly caught up in the hype (just as Samantha Jones was in 2001 - everything is cyclical). When an item becomes this ubiquitous, it starts to feel less special. Lately, I’ve noticed a real lack of individuality across so much “fashion” content - the Birkin, the 12 different versions of the same Missoni set worn on every day of a Eurotrip, that ratty Miu Miu fleece…it’s simply a high budget copy-paste with no soul.

I’m certainly not knocking you if you have one, or if owning one is a dream of yours. What I am pushing back on is the idea that personal style should function primarily as a status signal. Style, at its best, is personal, expressive, and fun - not a visual resumé of your bank account.

Instead of chasing a trend that feels increasingly overrated, I think your money is far better spent building a bag collection with actual range - pieces that show taste, personality, and restraint. A collection of unique bags will always be more interesting than flexing a single status symbol everyone has already seen (and quietly wonders whether it’s real or fake anyway). These UGG boots have been my go-to for navigating the snow piles and slush this week. The extra bit of height is a lifesaver when dealing with murky puddles of questionable depth, and they pair just as easily with leggings as they do with denim. The branding is also subtle enough that it’s not immediately obvious that they are Uggs, which I like.

Ballerina sneakers. Sneakerinas? Whatever you want to call them, this hybrid shoe keeps popping up everywhere I look. Sandy Liang just released a ballerina sneaker in three colorways with a cushy-looking outsole. Nike & SKIMS are launching their new Rift Mesh style on 1/26. And, much to my own surprise - given that I’m generally not a fan of modern day Balenciaga - their Speedcat collab with PUMA is actually insanely cute.

As a woman on the brink of foot surgery and someone who loves walking miles in an impractical ballet flat with zero support, I’m welcoming this trend with open arms. The steady stream of releases tells me this silhouette isn’t going anywhere - we’ll be seeing it well into spring & summer. I got this pair last year and absolutely love them. Sometimes, the best shoes are the ones that you know are kind of ugly, but you embrace and own it anyway.

The weather has been brutally cold, and I’m fully in post-holiday lock in mode: laying low, easing back into good habits, and most importantly of all, staying inside. That does mean I haven’t been boots on the ground for many exciting restaurant adventures lately, but that will change the second we’re consistently above freezing temps.

I did attempt an impromptu glass of wine at Stars the other day, but walked straight into a wall of people - packed so tightly it felt like a potential fire hazard. Instead, we pivoted (and I highly recommend doing the same if you find yourself in this situation), and walked 7 blocks south to horse with no name (a place so under the radar, they have no social media and no website). Cozy neighborhood energy, a bartender equally committed to picking the perfect wine and the perfect vinyl to match the mood - the kind of place that works just as well for a long catch-up with a friend as it does for a casual date. Stars is still firmly on my list, but this ended up being an easy, low-stress win and a reminder that sometimes the best move is the quick pivot, not the obvious buzzy spot.

With all the aforementioned laying low and hibernating inside, I’ve been watching a healthy amount of TV/movies.

What I’m Watching:

Industry: I don’t know a single person who watches this show, which feels criminal. We’re only 2 episodes into season 4, and both PHENOMENAL - I’m talking award-worthy episodes. It took me a minute to get into this series initially (I cannot begin to keep up with what they’re actually doing in the workplace) but I’m fully locked in now and very excited for what’s coming.

Tell Me Lies: Is it just me, or does this season feel extra sinister and icky? Also, I’m unsure if I’m becoming more observant or if the acting/writing has slipped, but I’m convinced the entire wedding/present day 2015 Bree + Wrigley storyline is a massive trap they’ve collectively set for Stephen.

The Traitors: If we’ve talked about this season, you already know my theory: Donna was absolutely a plant, and her vote-out was planned from the jump. I will not be elaborating further (unless asked, of course).

Entourage: Because I need something silly and lighthearted for balance.

Sorry, Baby: Not my favorite movie I’ve seen recently, but Eva Victor was excellent. A poignant portrayal of depression and loneliness, and an impressive directorial debut overall.

The Secret Agent: I really enjoyed this one. A bit long, and I didn’t find the alternate timeline flash-forwards necessary, but the tension, performances, and visual storytelling were all incredibly strong.

Current Obsession

My hooded scarf from Dries Van Noten. I absolutely loathe a beanie - you will never, ever catch me in one - and I’m usually someone who just toughs out the cold, maybe throws on some ear muffs, and sucks it up. But full head coverage has been necessary lately, and this scarf-hood hybrid is, in my opinion, the chicest way to brave the winter weather.

I have an upcoming ski trip that I truly cannot wait for. Mentally, I’m already there - snowy winter wonderland, bundled up and cozy chic, channeling Audrey Hepburn in Charade.

Ski towns (especially the non-Aspen ones, in my experience) can feel extremely casual and make you feel like you should tone it down - skip the floor-length faux fur, avoid anything too fashion forward. I think that’s exactly backwards. Skiwear is an opportunity to lean in. It’s a moment to be dramatic, playful, bright, and a little ridiculous. There should be no quiet luxury on the slopes this season!!

Throw on that dramatic fur. Wear the statement accessories. Have fun with it. I know I will be! These are the outfit formulas I’m cooking up for my ideal ski weekend - from the slopes to the inevitable slumber party:

I was welcomed back to the city with an easily snagged reservation at a spot that had been nearly impossible to book pre-holidays: Wild Cherry. Between friends & strangers on the internet raving about it, expectations were high. I love the space and the service was great, but the food, while good, wasn’t particularly memorable.

One small but annoying note: in a tiny restaurant where a lot of the seating is at the bar, there’s no coat check. It’s winter, we’re all in long coats, and watching them drag along the floor under wet boots on hooks beneath the bar wasn’t exactly chic.

The order: tuna crudo (wouldn’t repeat), beets & sunchokes (fine but also skippable), chicken thighs & fries (I didn’t try it, but my friend said it was good - if a bit annoying to eat), and the much-hyped cheeseburger. The burger was good, but not remotely life changing, despite the comparisons. And I don’t know if this is a new trend or just something I’m hyper aware of lately, but restaurants - especially the fancy, expensive ones - need to stop serving burgers without fries. ENOUGH with the upcharge side order!!! The Black Forest Twist frozen custard dessert was quite good. If you’ve been feeling serious FOMO about Wild Cherry, rest assured - you’re not missing the best meal of your life. This is a place you go for the vibe more than the food, and on that front, it delivers. I’d definitely go back, I’m just not sprinting there or lying awake nostalgic about it.

I also went to Inga’s this week, which is exactly the kind of restaurant I wish I lived near - the kind you daydream about being a regular at. It’s almost compelling enough to make me fantasize about moving to Brooklyn. Their chocolate cake has lived rent-free in my head since I first had it last year, and I’m happy to report it still absolutely holds up. One of the best.

Movies & TV

TV is so back, baby!!!

I scoffed at the thought of watching Heated Rivalry weeks ago - a show about hockey? Not interested. I am, of course, eating my words now. What people were pitching as “sex with a little bit of hockey” is actually doing the show a disservice. The pacing, the music, the acting - the CHEMISTRY between these two is a 10/10. I found it so emotionally compelling. And maybe most refreshing of all: the optimism of a genuine happy ending. We don’t see that enough, and it’s clearly resonating.

The Traitors is back, and I got chills when Lisa Rinna was picked to be a Traitor. I love that production seems to be protecting the Housewives a bit this season, since they’ve historically been voted out/ganged up on far too quickly. My Dorinda has some guardian angels looking out for her this season. Porsha, on the other hand, was soooo embarrassing - I truly cannot believe she was faithful. It does seem like there may be a lack of ‘gamers’ this season? Also, Michael needs to go ASAP - his voice is so grating. I’m just happy this silly little show is back.

Other TV premieres I’m looking forward to this coming week: Industry season 4 (Sunday) & Tell Me Lies season 3(Tuesday)

Current Obsession

Even with a fresh trim and my best efforts, winter always does a number on my hair. I recently added Crown Affair’s Overnight Repair Serum to my nighttime routine, and I’m waking up with smoother, sleeker hair (which honestly feels like a small miracle this time of year). The results are real, and it smells so good I look forward to using it at the end of the day.

Movies/TV

I’ve been very much in my cinema era lately - I went to the theaters 3x last week alone, and I’m not mad about it. I’m also going to see Marty Supreme this weekend, so will report back on that next time.

I went to a screening of The Heartbreak Kid (1972 - NOT the awful 2007 remake with Ben Stiller. I’ve actually not seen that one, but the 29% on Rotten Tomatoes tells me everything I need to know) at Cherry Lane Theater as part of their monthly “Sundays with Sofia” series. Cherry Lane is a place, and Sofia Coppola is a person, whose taste and programming I trust implicitly - I love buying a seat blindly, showing up, and letting myself be surprised by something I might not have chosen to watch on my own.

Unfortunately (and tragically), The Heartbreak Kid is a movie somewhat lost to time and not available on any streaming or distribution service. But what Sofia wants, Sofia gets - she tracked down a copy so we could all watch it together, and it was her first time watching it on a big screen in a full theater. I don’t really have actionable advice here unless you happen to own a VHS/DVD player and feel motivated to hunt down a physical copy…in which case, I strongly suggest you do. I genuinely enjoyed the rollercoaster that was this movie.

On the TV front, I’ve been struggling to finish anything - or even give most shows my full attention - but It: Welcome to Derry fully broke through for me. It feels like the season came and went quickly, but the finale was genuinely incredible and worth the ride. I loved the tie ins to the movies, and the set up for next season (even if critics don’t really agree with me).

And thank GOD Bravo is finally back in action. RHOBH, RHOSLC, Southern Charm - it’s been ages since I felt truly engaged by Bravo programming. I thought maybe it was a phase I’d grown out of. Maybe it still is, on some level. I don’t think we’ll ever get reality TV as good as what was being made 10 years ago…but I’m very happy to have some decency back.

I hadn’t been to the Museum at FIT since I graduated (no math, please), but I ducked in on a freezing day last weekend and I was thoroughly impressed. The current exhibition, Dress, Dreams, and Desire: Fashion and Psychoanalysis, is incredibly thoughtful - giving the Costume Institute at The Met a run for its money. It closes January 4, and it’s free, so go while you can.

Food

I was boots on the ground for the opening of Bistrot Ha this week. I usually avoid restaurants in their first week or two - something almost always goes wrong - but when a res popped up for the days-old Bistrot Ha, I jumped on it. I’d tried their sister restaurant, Ha’s Snack Bar, over the summer and had a few of the most memorable dishes I ate all year (I don’t even really care for snails, and I’m still thinking about their snails with garlic & tamarind butter).

The service is still finding its footing (no surprise given how new it is) - pacing from the kitchen needs some work, and while decently attentive, things felt a bit clunky at times. That said, I’m confident it’ll smooth out quickly - it’s not fair to pass much judgement on day 2 of service, but I’ve got to give you the unfiltered Lo Down download. The food was excellent - like Ha’s Snack Bar, the menu feels inventive and just adventurous enough to keep things exciting. The order: fried yuba with crab & nuoc mam; mushroom and foie gras tartelette; crudo with yuzu & capers; Ha’s salad; steak frites (looks unassuming, tastes incredible); coconut tres leches; apple & quince crumble.

Craving The Corner Store but can’t secure a res? Go to Danny’s instead. Sure, you probably won’t spot Taylor Swift there - but honestly, do you even want to? Cozy room, great vibes, and indulgent, satisfying food across the board.

I think the pastas were good but skippable, but nearly everything else was essential ordering: ham & cheese hot pockets; chopped kale salad (don’t listen to your gut and get the caesar salad; definitely get the kale!); spicy tuna with black rice; rosemary fried chicken; cheeseburger (rude it doesn’t come with fries - but absolutely order a side of fries + the sauces). And definitely save room for the chocolate chip deep dish cookie for dessert.

Current Obsession

Kallmeyer. If I had to choose just one brand to wear right now, it would be this one. It’s both ladylike and effortlessly cool at the same time - exactly the balance I’m trying to channel. My three favorite pieces at the moment:

Holiday dressing season is officially upon us - the group chats are buzzing, the calendars are filling up, and suddenly we all need…new outfits. Instead of spiraling, I’ve put together five foolproof holiday outfits - pieces you can mix, match, and actually rewear long after December 25th.

I’m firmly in my ‘practical but still chic’ era this year, hence the moodier palette. I love a festive moment as much as anyone, but I’m not interested in buying one-off, holiday-coded pieces that only work in December and then retire to the back of the closet forever. We’re dressing for longevity here, but still having fun with it.

Two great movies I saw in theaters this week that I recommend if you need a rec that isn’t Wicked (and is just much better overall): Rental Family and Sentimental Value (side note: I’m 99% sure I’ve mentioned it here previously, but if you haven’t seen the other Joachim Trier/Renate Reinsve movie, The Worst Person in the World, I urge you to. One of my favorite films from the past 5 years).

Food

I had a few stellar meals over the weekend while my family was in town (COQODAQ, Rezdora, Kiko, Thai Diner) and while we were wandering the UES after a walk through the part, I realized we were near Birley Bakery, which I’ve been seeing all over my feed lately. We popped in for a coffee & pastry, and it is seriously one of the most charling little spots. It felt distinctly European (it is a London import, after all) but in the coziest, most jewel-box-Christmas way. Definitely go this holiday season - it’s worth the detour.

And while you’re already uptown, swing by the MyTheresa x Hani’s Bakery holiday gift shop pop-up (closing on Sunday). It’s a cute collab pairing Hani’s special holiday treats with decadent gifts from MyTheresa. I took home a classic, impeccably chic tin of holiday cookies, which is perfect to bring to any party this weekend if you make it there in time. They also had an insane vegan coconut eggnog that genuinely blew my mind in the best way possible.

If you’re on the hunt for great, funny stocking stuffers or white elephant/secret Santa gifts, I stumbled into the best little shop last weekend: A Shop of Things on the LES. It’s camp, clever, and chaotic - 10/10 for gifty things.

Another gem nearby, especially for hostess gifts or just genuinely chic holiday gifting, is the new(ish) Gohar store, also on Orchard St. They had the most delightful surrealist food candles and quirky home pieces that felt super special.

I’ve talked before about my love of immersive theater, so when Masquerade was announced, I was immediately intrigued. Unlike the Sleep No Mores that came before it, which were a bit of a conceptual free-for-all, Masquerade is a true musical - a reimagining of the Phantom of the Opera told through fully immersive, room-to-room storytelling.

You follow the narrative on foot from start to finish: down into the depths beneath the opera house, through a carnival, graveyard, dressing rooms, boudoirs…it’s theatrical world-building in the most literal sense.

Full disclosure: I’m not a fan of Phantom. I’ve seen the musical once (traumatic…story for another time) and I’ve never seen the movie. But despite all that, I absolutely loved this production. I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone, all ages included. If traditional theater isn’t your thing - if you get bored sitting still for two and a half hours - this is the show you should see instead. If keeps you moving, exploring, and actually in the action of the story.

Movies & TV

I’ll be honest: I felt a wave of relief wash over me when the credits rolled at the end of Wicked: For Good. We’ve been pummeled with Wicked promo for what feels like 2 straight years, and while I adore the musical - I think it was actually the first show I ever saw, and I’ve seen it twice again since - I’ve been deeply fatigued by the Ariana & Cynthia of it all (and now the MM Madame Morrible, WW Wicked Witch of it all).

For Good was…good. Pretty much exactly what I expected. It didn’t blow me away, but didn’t disappoint either. To be fair, the second act of Wicked has always been the weaker half for me - both the music and plot aren’t as good as the first half - so the movie felt a little dragged out in the same places as the stage version (and then some). Glad I saw it, and equally glad to retire from Wicked discourse for a while.

In terms of TV - I tried to watch The Beast in Me. I’m sorry but also not at all sorry to say that Netflix consistently puts out the worst original shows of any streaming service. It’s overflowing with hot garbage.

I saw an early screening of Hamnet last weekend, and given all the awards-season buzz, I really thought I’d like it more. It was slow, a bit boring, and undeniably sad. The cinematography was gorgeous, though, and Jessie Buckley’s performance was truly phenomenal. If you’re a Shakespeare buff, you may appreciate it more than I did.

I also streamed two movies last weekend that were both perfectly enjoyable (and very different from each other): The Roses and Twinless.

And in the spirit of trying to understand what the rave was about, I attempted to watch All Her Fault. Keyword: attempted. I got so bored I turned it off and have zero interesting in finishing it. Anyone else feel the same?

Culture

I visited two art exhibitions recently that I genuinely enjoyed: Monet and Venice at the Brookyn Museum (on thru 2/1/26) and Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective at MoMA (on thru 2/7/26). I’ll be honest - these aren’t my favorite museums overall, so I didn’t wander into the other exhibitions or permanent collections, but both shows are absolutely worth a visit. And if you’re choosing just one, I’d go with Monet and Venice.

Current Obsession

My bestie gifted me a discovery set of perfumes from Marissa Zappas for my birthday (side note: this is an amazing gift for any woman in your life this holiday season), and it’s really the gift that keeps on giving. I’m loving so many of the scents that I’m having a difficult time deciding which to buy a full size bottle of. I did just pull the trigger on Queen Nzinga, but I also want Annabel’s Birthday Cake for a daytime scent & Flaming Creature for a warm, smoky evening scent.

I went to the most recent Sundays with Sofia at the Cherry Lane Theater - their monthly screening series hosted by Sofia Coppola - and this one felt particularly special. Sofia chose Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, a documentary chronicling the BTS making of her father’s film Apocalypse Now, shot largely by her mother during their time filming/living in the Philippines. If you have any interest in how movies actually get made, I cannot recommend this documentary enough. It’s an incredible look into the chaos, artistry, and very real human toll of filmmaking (Martin Sheen even suffered a heart attack on set at only 36!)

After the screening, Sofia sat down for a Q&A with a friend, and it was one of those rare conversations that felt both deeply personal and casually revelatory. She spoke about living in the Philippines from ages 4-6 while the film was being made, how she relates to each of her parents (“I’m my mother on the outside, my father on the inside”), and her mother’s instinct to capture the real, raw, messy stuff - often prioritizing artistry over motherhood, but always within a container of love and mutual respect.

Sofia revealed that her mother, who has since passed, filmed similar documentary-style footage while Sofia was making Marie Antoinette. Sofia said she’s currently editing that project, and I’m personally very much looking forward to seeing that someday.

The moment that stuck with me most was a piece of advice her mother gave her when she was younger and unsure of her path in life: if you feel drawn to certain creative instincts, even if you don’t understand why or where they’re leading, follow them. You never know what they’re preparing you for - but they’re surely guiding you toward something.

Theodora may be one of the most hyped restaurants in the city right now, but for me…it was just okay. When the bread course (seeded laffa with eggplant & the sourdough with whipped ricotta) is the best part of the meal, it’s not usually a great sign. Everything else was just fine: wood fired cabbage, black cod, prawns. Not exactly worth the crowd that was already lined up around the block at 5PM waiting for a table. If you’re in the neighborhood and can snag a seat, sure - otherwise, skip the frenzy.

Music/Culture

Kaytranada & JUSTICE being on tour together is…a choice! They feel like two entirely different fan bases, but fortunately for me, I love them both - Kaytranada is a regular in my rotation, while JUSTICE is something I only listen to when nostalgia strikes. I’ll never forget stumbling into JUSTICE’s Lollapalooza set back in 2011 and being absolutely floored - it was unlike anything I’d seen. And honestly? This tour’s production may have topped the Tame Impala show I saw a couple of weeks ago. It’s tough to compare, but the staging and lighting were truly on another level. Meanwhile, Kaytranada’s energy remains undefeated and completely infectious.

Current Obsession

I’m a true day-one SLT girl - I’ve literally been going since it opened and since I moved to the city in 2011, back when there was only one location (RIP Midtown). Fitness isn’t something I want to write about much; it’s my personal zen and one of the few parts of my routine I keep just for myself. I ebb and flow with studios and workouts, and I fell off the SLT wagon for a bit, but I’ve been back in the groove lately and I’m genuinely so happy to be reunited.

Also, Jennifer Lawrence mentioned on Las Culturistas last week that she’s obsessed with SLT too. Queen behavior, honestly.

Movies & TV

I’m knee deep in my cinema era. It’s good to be back. I’d like to think Nicole Kidman would be proud.

The perfect weeknight activity, in my opinion: grab a glass of wine at Parcelle Greenwich Village, and then walk over to the Angelika for a movie (or do it in reverse if the film demands a debrief). I saw Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein last week, and honestly, it should be illegal that this is a Netflix movie with a limited theatrical release. This is not a movie that should be watched at home on a tiny TV in a room full of distractions -it demands your full attention. The cinematography is stunning, and it ended up being way more emotional than I expected (I was not familiar with the source material, tbh). If you can, go see this in theaters - it’s worth the effort.

I also saw the upcoming George Clooney/Adam Sandler (and 500 other very famous actors) movie, Jay Kelly. The Angelika has a free membership program where they screen a surprise movie once a month, and I truly had no idea what I was walking into - could’ve been the new Wicked, could’ve been Casablanca. It was actually fun to surrender control for once and just…show up. That said, I didn’t love this movie - it was cheesy and very self indulgent. I think it would probably be more well received by an older generation.

The weather is finally getting chilly, and holiday collections are rolling out in full force. It’s inspiring me to get festive earlier than ever this year and just lean all the way in. There’s a tiny new matcha spot in the West Village by the name of TEABOWL (don’t love the name, but we’ll look past it). It’s in a soft opening phase and they only have two options - regular matcha or hojicha, iced or hot, and macadamia nut milk that comes out of a futuristic dispenser. They’re expanding the menu and also will offer ice cream in the near future, but it has a very sleek vibe (it is from the people behind Silence Please). An exciting addition to the neighborhood.

I spent 4 days in Savannah this past week, so no dining out in NYC to report on. Though, if you happen to need Savannah recommendations, the food was fantastic: Cotton & Rye, Leopold’s for ice cream, Saint Bibiana, The Grey. Definitely skip The Olde Pink House, though.

Current Obsession

Is there any better compliment than walking into a room, getting asked what perfume you’re wearing…and realizing you’re not wearing any? That happened to me this week when I walked into barre class one morning, and I realized that the lingering scent was this evolvetogether lotion I’d put on the night before. I’m usually an unscented body lotion girlie, but this one has fully converted me. I went to the Tame Impala concert on Tuesday night, and it truly blew me away - the lights, the visuals, the staging - it all felt otherworldly, like stepping into another dimension. I love a 360 stage setup that gives every corner of the arena a moment, and this was production perfection. Someone mentioned the last time Kevin played Yes I’m Changing live was 2019, and since it wasn’t on the setlist the night before, hearing my favorite song of his felt like a little cosmic gift. They’re playing in NYC again this Friday & Saturday - if you can snag a ticket (or catch them in your respective city), GO!

I’ve been dying to go to a movie screening at the Cherry Lane Theater - every event sells out instantly, and the theater itself is tiny. When I saw a ticket available, I bought it immediately without even checking what the movie was. Turns out it was Paris, Texas - a stunning, hauntingly beautiful film - but I have to admit I was…distracted. Sofia Coppola & Thomas Mars were sitting directly next to me the entire time. It was one of those surreal, only-in-New-York moments that makes me fall in love with this city all over again.

I visited Storm King last weekend, which is my favorite fall day trip, without question. I make the pilgrimage at least once a year - it’s peak serenity and sculpture heaven, especially when the leaves are turning. Go now before the trees go bare and the park closes for the season. It’s pure magic.

Food

Seahorse is definitely giving Lure Fishbar energy, but with a more polished, grown-up feel. The space is beautiful - warm lighting, great energy, and genuinely good service. The bread service was essentially a mini lobster roll (adorable), though they could’ve done a better job of removing the shells tbh. The pastas were solid but missing a little something (read: salt). The sole meuniere was delicious, though I wouldn’t have minded a little extra sauce. Dessert was a highlight: a perfectly spiced carrot cake that felt like fall on a plate.

Blooming Hill Farm is about an hour and fifteen minutes north of the city and is the perfect pre-Storm King brunch stop. They have a farm to table restaurant and the most charming little farm stand out back alongside a soothing creek. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the french toast bread pudding to the fall hash and the farm smash burger. I picked up some local carrot-habanero sauce, dark chocolate almond maple brittle, and - of course - a few apples from the farm stand.

In an effort to stop using hair ties (y’know- breakage, healthy hair, etc), I’ve been reaching for my Deborah Pagani hair pin nonstop. I think it’s the chichest way to wear your hair up - effortless but elevated. Worth the splurge too - it’s beautifully made and won’t snap in half like the cheap ones that somehow always do at the worst possible moment.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is a movie I’m happy I saw, but will also be very happy to never watch ever again. It was all the birth control I needed, and as a person who has been stressed & anxious enough as is lately, this movie exacerbated that. I do anticipate it being included in the awards show conversation, specifically for Rose Byrne’s performance. I’d love to hear the thoughts on this movie from a mother - so if you are a mother out there reading this, please see this movie and let me know your thoughts.

Denim has been a hot topic of conversation lately. I feel like everyone I know is perpetually on the hunt for that elusive perfect pair. The thing is, the perfect jean looks different on everyone. It’s a tedious, often draining process, but when you finally find the one, it can completely transform your wardrobe. I recently met my match in the form of these AGOLDE Keira Jeans. The wash (Rinse) is a deep dark indigo color that looks good with absolutely everything and elevates any look. I’m genuinely tempted to grab them in every color. (For reference, I sized down 1 size in this style)

Café Carmellini is a perfect restaurant for a special occasion. The space itself is beautiful, and the service top notch. I do think that, for an Italian restaurant, they need more than 3 pastas on their menu, but the Caramelle was truly divine. Also, their sticky toffee pudding is the best I’ve ever had (outside of my own, of course - I use this recipe).

I believe brunch service at COQODAQ is relatively new, and I highly recommend it. Dinner is, of course, all about the fried chicken, but brunch brings an opportunity to try something a bit different (buttermilk pancakes, chicken & waffles, a Golden English Muffin topped with soft scrambled eggs and caviar - my choice). Similarly to dinner service, you get a plethora of appetizers included (french toast soldiers, shrimp salad lettuce cups, kimbap, deviled eggs, hash brown & salmon rillettes, chicken consomme, chicken croquettes) and it’s enough to be full before receiving your entrée. Their perfect soft serve frozen yogurt is also included for dessert, currently with a passionfruit-condensed milk.

Speaking of frozen yogurt…I happened to find myself by Mimi’s Frozen Yogurt earlier this week, and when I saw there was no line, I knew I had to try it. It is, unfortunately, very good - their toppings are high quality, and I love the self serve nature of both the yogurt + toppings. The tart yogurt itself was good (I think the yogurt at Culture is better), but the toppings and the control of adding as much as your heart desires makes this a top tier spot.

I saw Oh, Mary! when it opened Off-Broadway with Cole Escola at the Lucille Lortel theater, and while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t exactly something I ever anticipated seeing again. That is, until I saw the news of Jane Krakowski’s casting in the titular role - I bought tickets immediately upon hearing the news, and wondered if I’d still be so-so about the play, or if her performance would change my experience. All respect to Cole, but Jane’s performance was unbeatable and beyond hilarious. I absolutely recommend going to see her during her run (through Jan 4).

Conversely, I had never seen any production of MAMMA MIA!, movie or otherwise, until seeing it on Broadway last weekend. It was a very lighthearted and fun show, but now I need to watch the movie sequel to find out who the father is…

Food & Drink

Raoul’s is a place I hate to love, as I find the staff generally rude. But the food? Always hits. And the cozy, old-school vibe is always just right. Soho was eerily quiet on Sunday, and we waltzed right in expecting the usual mob scene and to be turned away - only to find it blissfully mellow. We snagged bar seats immediately and did what any sane person would do: order the frisée salad (always), and the burger (also an always, whenever possible). The side of au poivre sauce they serve with the burger is just *chef’s kiss*

Torrisi, on the other hand, left me a little underwhelmed. I know it’s beloved - I know many people who absolutely rave about it - but for the price and the hype, I expected more. The food was good, not great; maybe my expectations were just too high. The service also felt very rushed, which didn’t help. I won’t say I’d never go back, but it’s not somewhere I’m dying to revisit.
