Culture, closet sales & gifts worth giving...
Shopping
A dedicated what to wear for the holidays newsletter is coming next week (get excited).
In the meantime, browse my gift guide for some inspo - these are my top picks:
Any of the curated gift boxes from Big Night are foolproof and genuinely perfect for anyone. Same goes for any of the Ghia sets (especially if you/the recipient is leaning into Dry January).
Maybe it’s a sign of getting older, but I think a really good pair of socks is an elite gift. these cashmere socks (or these - you really can’t beat the packaging!), these ski socks or pilates grip socks for a sporty recipient. The same goes for pajamas: whether they’re a classic year round set or holiday-coded.
A curated box of skincare products or fragrance is always a crowd pleaser: the U beauty trio, a pack of luxe face masks, an A+ hair kit, or a Byredo perfume kit. I’ve also been hearing nonstop rave reviews about these Kate McLeod moisturizing bars, a very chic way to stay hydrated all winter.
Can never go wrong with cozy winter accessories: ear muffs, scarf, balaclava, slippers, robe, cashmere gloves
A chic, elevated game: a backgammon set, playing card case, this insanely fun poker set, a tic tac toe set that doubles as sculptural decor

Culture
I’ve talked before about my love of immersive theater, so when Masquerade was announced, I was immediately intrigued. Unlike the Sleep No Mores that came before it, which were a bit of a conceptual free-for-all, Masquerade is a true musical - a reimagining of the Phantom of the Opera told through fully immersive, room-to-room storytelling.
You follow the narrative on foot from start to finish: down into the depths beneath the opera house, through a carnival, graveyard, dressing rooms, boudoirs…it’s theatrical world-building in the most literal sense.
Full disclosure: I’m not a fan of Phantom. I’ve seen the musical once (traumatic…story for another time) and I’ve never seen the movie. But despite all that, I absolutely loved this production. I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone, all ages included. If traditional theater isn’t your thing - if you get bored sitting still for two and a half hours - this is the show you should see instead. If keeps you moving, exploring, and actually in the action of the story.
Movies & TV
I’ll be honest: I felt a wave of relief wash over me when the credits rolled at the end of Wicked: For Good. We’ve been pummeled with Wicked promo for what feels like 2 straight years, and while I adore the musical - I think it was actually the first show I ever saw, and I’ve seen it twice again since - I’ve been deeply fatigued by the Ariana & Cynthia of it all (and now the MM Madame Morrible, WW Wicked Witch of it all).
For Good was…good. Pretty much exactly what I expected. It didn’t blow me away, but didn’t disappoint either. To be fair, the second act of Wicked has always been the weaker half for me - both the music and plot aren’t as good as the first half - so the movie felt a little dragged out in the same places as the stage version (and then some). Glad I saw it, and equally glad to retire from Wicked discourse for a while.
In terms of TV - I tried to watch The Beast in Me. I’m sorry but also not at all sorry to say that Netflix consistently puts out the worst original shows of any streaming service. It’s overflowing with hot garbage.

On My Radar
A very good closet sale is happening this Saturday, hosted by a friend who has worked at Chanel, Dior, Ralph Lauren…the résumé is résumé-ing. She is a vintage whisperer, so expect the best of old & new. I’ve contributed a handful of pieces as well: a vintage Italian fur jacket, NWT pieces from Sandy Liang & Ciao Lucia, unworn Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance sneakers, and plenty of other treasures. RSVP here for the details & address!
Bufon, a new LES restaurant from the Demo team
MESS, a vague albeit intriguing concept store from fashion historian (& former Opening Ceremony employee) Ruby Redstone, opens today in the West Village (236 W. 10th St)
Beatbox, the most fun place to have a pre-holiday gathering with your friends
Seed Library, a London-import cocktail bar in Nomad
Until next week -
