Arts & Culture
This week, Katy Perry, Gayle King, and a few others went on what was basically an 11 minute glorified Six Flags ride…and called it “historic.” Let’s be real - this whole thing felt more like a badly written skit from a sitcom than a meaningful moment for space exploration. Katy Perry sounded like she was mid-Coachella comedown in the post-flight interviews, and the whole production gave major influencer brand trip vibes. Only 2 of the 6 women on board had actual ties to science or space, and yet somehow this was positioned as a feminist milestone? I’m all for people doing whatever they want with their own money - if you want to shoot your former-mistress-turned-fiancé into space, have at it - but I don’t see how this self-indulgent, PR-heavy stunt is creating space for the women who’ve spent their lives training for real exploration. And if we’re going to do a publicity stunt, couldn’t we have at least picked a likable pop star??
I saw The Picture of Dorian Gray this weekend - What can I say that wasn’t already said by Maddie a few weeks ago. It’s fresh. It’s new. It’s chaotic. It’s a masterclass in character acting from Sarah Snook. And it’s only on thru June 29, so buy your tickets now!
Food
I snagged a coveted res at Chez Fifi last night. Here are my cliffnotes:
Vibes: 5/5. Gorgeous, intimate townhouse space. Impeccably designed. We loved the separation of the bar area (upstairs) from the dining room, compared to similar restaurants with a crowded tiny bar in the front.
Food: 4.5/5. Half a point lost because I strongly disliked one dish (the Basque deviled crab), but all of my dining companions liked it, so do with that what you wish. The bluefin tuna & endive salad were both ideal shared starters, perfectly light and fresh. Order a steak, and, since you’re already indulging by just being there, fully send it by adding the caviar supplement to the fries (it’s well worth it and a generous portion). The half chicken was also an excellent shared main, and the roasted potatoes that came with the dish may have been the best I’ve ever had. Save room for dessert, and order the chocolate mousse.
Service: 3.75/5. This is maybe a little too critical. Just felt slightly lacking for such a pricey place.
Did it hurt my soul a little bit when I saw the number on the bill at the end of our meal? Yeah. It did. Will I be back anytime soon? No. But it’s an ideal restaurant for a special occasion.
I had a pre-theater dinner at The View last weekend (unfortunately not with much of a view because the weather was shit). I was compelled to be a Karen and ask to be seated within view of the live pianist, but good thing I didn’t, since the dining room quite literally rotates around it and everyone gets a view. The food was good, nothing mind blowing, and definitely overpriced. It is a pretty space, though, and I think instead of dinner, I’d recommend having a drink in their lounge for a post-theater debrief. The pianist played Marry The Night at one point, which I think was only noticed by me, but it was much appreciated.
It had been a hot minute since I’d been to Morgenstern’s - but I was passing by on a long weekend stroll and stopped in for a little sweet treat. They have 50 (!!) new flavors, which is overwhelming when they still don’t allow for samples. I went with Cow Tracks, a rich vegan chocolate ice cream swirled with Oreo cream that did not taste vegan, in the best way possible (I usually find vegan ice cream too…icy). And since I obviously couldn’t try just 1 new flavor, I also got a scoop of the Malted ChocoDough, a malted vanilla ice cream with dark chocolate cookie dough bits. They were both soo good and reminded me of why I love their ice cream so much. They truly bring a unique perspective to the ice cream landscape and are mixing up flavors that nobody else would even think to make, but so much about the store still pisses me off (the glacial pace at which they scoop, the no samples, the fact that they removed my favorite ice cream of all time from the menu (charred banana)).
Fashion
I am simply obsessed with everything I see lately from Dries Van Noten. It’s a brand that I do not own a single thing from, but that is taking up space in my wishlist on every site imaginable.

Current Obsession
Watching concerts on YouTube while walking on the treadmill is a game changer. I walked 7 miles uphill watching Lady Gaga’s Coachella set and it had me so amped up, I could’ve kept going for a full marathon. Simply listening to music makes my eyes wander and I get bored easily, while watching TV doesn’t give me nearly enough energy, and I find myself frequently checking the clock as the minutes inch by. This is my new favorite way to keep my energy up and help the time pass quickly.
On My Radar
Fedora reopened yesterday in the West Village under new ownership of the St. Jardim team
Go Go Sing, an intimate and glitzy communal karaoke room just opened inside Coqodaq. I’ll take my caviar chicken nuggets with a side of Cher, please.
Bar Nena, a Mexico City-inspired speakeasy below Jajaja on Carmine St
Leonessa, a charming new rooftop aperitivo bar, looks like a good place to spend Saturday afternoon with the first spritz of the season in hand knowing that it’ll be a high of 79°
The Glass House in New Canaan, CT is reopening this weekend for the season. I’m longing for some open space and grass, and I’m disappointed to say I haven’t been here yet, but want to make the trip this spring/summer.
Until next week -
xo

The DVN brown suede sneaks will definitely be added this year. Time to swap out the crusty CPs
I physically nodded in agreement the whole time reading about the space mission. And I need the dries van noten wedges. Also— Justice for the crab dish
