Fashion
I keep reaching for my decade-old running shorts from Nike lately (and no, I don’t run) or throwing on an oversized tee with bike shorts instead of a typical matching legging set to hit the gym. It’s giving: comfort is king.
According to BoF and Vogue Business, Gen Z is driving the shift - declaring classic leggings out, and ushering in a new era of sporty dressing that prioritizes ease over effort. If we are doing leggings, they’re flared and/or with an ultra flattering v-waist. Sporty spice energy is in.
Two new brand that have caught my eye recently are Literary Sport and H-O-R-S-E, the latter of which I recently snagged a pair of their Short Shorts. The new sporty uniform is comprised of effortless onesies, loose shorts, and jersey-style tees. And don’t forget your crew socks. Ever. Shop my full edit of what to wear right now, on and off the tread.
Also worth noting: Ty Haney is back at Outdoor Voices. I was a huge fan in the OV heyday, and from the few images I’ve seen, the comeback looks like it could align well with this next-gen take on activewear. Their new collection launches 8/4 and I’m eager to see what it’s all about.

Food & Drink
Ops: when we sat down, one of my friends exclaimed “this place is just so Brooklyn.” He wasn’t wrong (and that’s not a diss!). The menu is very straightforward: a few simple apps (order the salad) and pizza. All of the pizzas we tried were fantastic (margherita, Juno and Mamma), and there were zero slices left on the table. We tried both desserts (vanilla bean panna cotta + chocolate & amaro cake) and both were delish. As reported last week, they just opened a new location in the East Village as well (menu looks slightly larger there!)
Clemente Bar: Excellent service is pretending not to see you stealing a coaster, saying nothing, and then bringing over several more for you to take home (+ the largest matchbook I’ve ever seen). This is one of the most well-designed spaces I’ve been to in recent memory, and everything was fantastic from the drinks to the small bites to the ambiance and service. The perfect place for a special occasion.
Don Angie: I feel bad ripping on this dinner because my company was beyond lovely (if you’re reading this, the following thoughts have nothing to do with you!!). I’ve always thought Don Angie was just sort of…mid. I roll my eyes every time I see people lined up outside at 3:30pm on any given day, wanting to get a table. I don’t know how the hype got so huge for the restaurant. It had been awhile since I’ve been, and it’s quite frankly gone downhill. The service wasn’t very attentive at all. Now, for the food: the beloved chrysanthemum salad, usually a highlight, was overdressed and soggy. The scallop crudo with nectarines, basil and smoked pine nuts was enjoyable, as was the bbq calamari (two dishes I don’t particularly love, but they were among the better dishes we ordered). The best dish was the sourdough pasta cacciatore. The buffalo milk carmelle pasta is good, but it leans a bit too sweet to enjoy more than a bite or two. The veal was fine, but not as good as I remembered it being - this too was a little overdressed and soggy, missing that crunch. The chicken scarpariello, to me, was inedible and had a putrid taste (this was a divided take at our table!). We skipped dessert in favor of trying the new BonBon next door, which I later regretted, because I absolutely love their black cocoa tiramisu (and because the selection at Bon Bon kind of sucked). I’m not sure the tiramisu would’ve lived up to the memory in my head, though, so perhaps it’s best to just leave it there on a high note.
I stopped by Le Gaz last week, a place I’ve only been a couple of times, but I love it. Their coffee is insanely strong, you’ll feel like you’re flying. I think it gets pretty busy on the weekends, so hit it up on a weekday if you find yourself in the LES.
Current Obsession
Sombr. The Gen Z trend of posting yourself lip syncing your own song 5,000 times on TikTok really works on me (see: Romy Mars).
