TV
I’ve been missing a lighthearted ease in my television programming lately. It lead me to finally start watching The Summer I Turned Pretty, and it’s making me feel nostalgic for the teen shows I used to consume ravenously (Gossip Girl, The OC, Pretty Little Liars, Gilmore Girls, etc). I’m still only a few episodes in on the 1st season, but I’m enjoying it so far, and the soundtrack is A+. They really hooked me with the promo image being a recreation of the one from my favorite movie, Sabrina (also bonus points that they reference the movie several times + play it during an episode).
Speaking of more intense TV shows…I’ve been watching Couples Therapy per a recommendation from cultural aficionado & my incredible trainer, Patrick, and it’s truly captivating television. They do a phenomenal job of showing all different types of people and relationships - gay, straight, open, poly, younger, older, interracial, etc. It’s a very enthralling watch, and a reminder that your childhood and adolescence truly do shape how you are in your adult relationships (quite literally a common theme in every single relationship shown on the show). The show does make me pretty happy to be single, though.
What can I say about AJLT ending that hasn’t already been said? Genuinely one of the worst endings to a series I’ve seen - it gave us absolutely nothing and spent too much time on pointless new characters/storylines (which leads me to believe ending the series was decided after they finished filming)! It seems nice on the surface to end on a happy note of carefree Carrie dancing at home, seemingly content with being single, but we all know that’s not true - she’s too much of a pick-me to truly be satisfied alone.
As a day 1 fan of The Gilded Age, I’m happy it’s taken off and renewed for another season. The finale was fantastic and action packed - I’m most looking forward to seeing what havoc Oscar & Mrs. Winterton will wreak in season 4, as well as a potential scandalous divorce for our favorite new money couple, Bertha & George.
Fashion
My wishlists are overflowing on every website right now, but these 10 pieces have officially taken up permanent residence in my brain:
This jacquard Toteme jacket that sold out but I am determined to track down elsewhere
This OLT clutch that was practically made for me
These Brunello Cucinelli boots
This satin Saint Laurent evening bag

Food & Drink
My birthday just so happened to fall on the same day that Wildflower Farms was hosting a special tomato harvest dinner, so I immediately made that my birthday plan. I don’t even mind that I spent my birthday with 40 strangers who didn’t know it was my birthday (and 6 wonderfully special friends who did). The day started with a morning tomato harvest on the farm, and ended with a dreamy dinner under a canopy of maple trees hosted by Flynn McGarry and with a tomato-centric menu: green tomato gazpacho; heirloom sungold cherry tomato salad with smoked sourdough, peaches, purple basil, sunflower pesto; wood-fired scallop with corn, sungold cherry tomato & squash succotash; ratatouille with kamo eggplant, charred sungold tomato, summer squash, farm herbs; grilled ribeye with tomato butter & blue cheese tater tots; and for dessert, ‘cherried’ tomatoes with olive oil ice cream, parmesan, and rainier cherries. It was truly magnificent from start to finish, and I highly recommend to anybody who can make the trip out for one of their special dinners (or just for a weekend trip up there - I can’t recommend it enough)!
I often solely write about eating out, but need to make an effort to share recipes that I’ve tried at home and liked. I made this Crispy Halloumi with Tomatoes and White Beans and it was unbelievably easy and delicious - perfect for the peak-tomato season we’re experiencing right now. I topped it off with basil instead of parsley, and served with a fresh crusty loaf of bread from L’appartement 4f.
Current Obsession
The Tower 28 SOS Rescue Spray. Recommended to me by my dermatologist after complaining about some acne that I just couldn’t shake, it’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, and I keep a mini size in my purse at all times - it’s a post-workout essential and also just absolutely necessary for these hot, sweaty summer days.
